Four days of winter birds photography targeting one of the largest living bird species

Dalmatian Pelicans of Lake Kerkini

Saturday 8^th - Wednesday 12^th February 2025

Kerkini lake is located north of Greece near the Bulgarian border. The lake is the best place in Europe for Dalmatian Pelicans. Here, using one of the many boats we will be able to get close enough to get perfect views and photograph them very closely. Many photos in flight, landing, etc. are also easy to perform. This time of the year the pelicans are in breeding plumage and very photogenic. Our main targets will be the Dalmatian Pelicans, but White Pelican, Flamingos, Pygmy Cormorant, Great White Egret, some ducks, wader and raptors are also present on the lake and can offer additional photos. We will have sessions in two days, followed by a transfer to the airport for your flight back home. If you are interested in this option, please ask us for full details.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrival at Sofia airport and three hours transfer will bring us to the Kerkini Lake. Accommodation for three nights in nice family hotel close to the lake.

Days 2 to 4 All day photography. In the morning we will be 30 minutes before sunrise on the lake, where will take a boat. Next 3 hours photography of the pelicans from the boat on morning light. After first day session we have a breakfast. We will continue to explore the lake and the shore for another interesting species. We will move it with the car and short walking. At afternoon we will back again on the harbor where will take boat again for second pelican`s session - with sunset light.

Day 4 Depending from the flight time, morning session is possible. Transfer to the Sofia airport. Departure.

Equipment: camera body, lenses: vario lenses are good for this photo tour, wide angle lenses because the pelicans are too close in the more of the time, memory cards, tripod, ground cover, camo net, comfortable and warm boots and clothes, hat and gloves.
