Audrey and the Hazel Grouse!
Last few days my family enjoyed the company of a special guest and friend - Audrey, amazing 91-years old lady. She is from England but during the last 50! years she lives in Spain. Audrey is a truly remarkable character and excellent birder. Her bird list is well over 5 000 species. I first met her 2 years ago on one of our summer tours. I then promised her a good view of the Hazel Grouse, a species she has never seen, if she comes in the right time. So she did and we spend together the last few days looking for birds and celebrating Easter and Ellies birthday. Saturday, after a three days intensive search we manage to get a wonferful view of a pair of Hazel Grouse - a singing male and a female - for at least 5 minutes and from a close distance - 20 meters or so. A really memorable moment in the Rhodopes Mountain! Well done Audrey, you did very well and your energy is very motivating. Looking forward to see you next January and show you the Red-breasted geese!
